About RandomCoffee

What is RandomCoffee?

RandomCoffee connects people within an organization or a community, to build relationships, exchange ideas and collaborate. It matches you with colleagues for virtual or in-person meetings, often over a coffee. See How RandomCoffee works.

How does RandomCoffee work?

Your admin creates programs and plans their sessions. For each session, RandomCoffee matches the participants with an algorithm that follows your admin’s rules, avoids matching people who have already met, and takes your preferences into account.

Once matched, you schedule a virtual or in-person coffee with your match at a time that suits you both. See How RandomCoffee works.

Sessions and opt-ins

I cannot find the opt-in email in my mailbox.

Check your spam folder first. If you have access to the Member Portal, sign in at app.random-coffee.com/login: when a session is open, a card on your home page lets you answer with “Yes, I’m In”.

If your program runs in Slack or Microsoft Teams, the invitation comes from the RandomCoffee bot there, not by email. See Member Portal overview.

I opted in for a session but I want to cancel. How can I do that?

Click the decline link or button of the opt-in message: in the email, in Slack (“Not this round”) or in Microsoft Teams (“Not this time, sorry”). Your last click is the one that counts, so make sure you do it before the match messages are sent. See Skip one session.

How often can I take part in RandomCoffee meetings?

It depends on the frequency of the sessions chosen by your admin for each program. If your admin turned it on, you can also get an instant match from your Member Portal at any time, without waiting for the next session. See Get an instant match.

Matches

Can I get matched with someone right away?

Yes, with an instant match, outside the programs of your company. In your Member Portal, click “Find someone”, then choose a colleague by criteria or let RandomCoffee pick someone at random. You both receive an intro email.

Your admin can turn this feature off. See Get an instant match.

Can I be matched again with someone I have already met?

RandomCoffee takes your matching history into account, so that you meet new colleagues each time. A repeat match can still happen, but rarely: it depends on the number of participants, your admin’s matching rules and your preferences.

I've been matched but I'm afraid I won't know what to say. Can you help?

Sure! Try our conversation starters, sorted by type of program: coffee chats, buddy and onboarding programs, mentoring, cross-cultural conversations and more.

Profile and preferences

Can I change my interests or preferences to get better matches?

Yes, if you have access to the Member Portal. Keep your profile up to date, and add matching preferences to say which profiles you would like to meet or avoid. Your admin’s matching rules come first, so a preference cannot always be met.

I won't be available for a while (vacation, parental leave...). How do I pause RandomCoffee?

Snooze your participation: until the date you choose, up to 4 weeks ahead, you are left out of new sessions, so you receive no invitations and no matches. Click “Snooze” at the bottom of an opt-in email, use “Availabilities” in your Member Portal, or chat with the RandomCoffee bot in Microsoft Teams. See Snooze your participation.

For a longer break, leave the program from “My Programs” in your Member Portal, and come back later with “Participate again”. See Unsubscribe.

Help and feedback

Can I give feedback on my RandomCoffee experience?

Absolutely, we value all feedback. Share it with your RandomCoffee administrator, or write to us at support@random-coffee.com. In Microsoft Teams, you can also use the “Feedback” command in your chat with the RandomCoffee bot.
