# Audiences

Group members into dynamic or static audiences based on their profile, categories and participation, and target the right people in your programs.

Audiences are groups of members built from their profile details, your custom [categories](/admin/categories-and-audiences/categories/) and their participation in RandomCoffee. They let you target exactly the right people, at the right moment, in your programs and broadcasts.

You find your audiences in "People" > "Audiences". To create one, see [Create an audience](/admin/categories-and-audiences/create-an-audience/).

## What you can filter on

An audience is defined by filters. You can combine as many as you need:

- **Members' info**: status (active or inactive), role (admin or user), creation date, email, first name, last name.
- **Members' activity**: last matched date, number of matches overall or in a specific program, number of invitations in a specific program.
- **Categories**: location, department or any other category set by your admins.
- **Audiences**: whether a member belongs, or does not belong, to other audiences.

## Two types of audiences

### Dynamic audiences

A dynamic audience updates automatically. As people join your organization, or as their profile or participation data changes, they are **added to or removed from the audience** according to its filters. Your audience is always up to date, with no manual work.

You cannot add or remove people by hand in a dynamic audience: to change who is in it, change its filters.

**Why use dynamic audiences?**

- Save time with automatic updates.
- Always target the right people at the right time.
- Personalize your programs based on real engagement data.

**Example**: an audience of new hires who joined in the last 30 days and have not been matched yet. People are added and removed automatically as their situation changes.

### Static audiences

A static audience is a **fixed list** that changes only when you change it. When you create it, you capture a **snapshot of the selected people at that moment**. You can use filters to build the first list, then add or remove people by hand at any time.

**Why use static audiences?**

- Combine the power of filters with manual flexibility.
- Great for special programs, pilot groups or handpicked teams.
- Easily include people who fall outside your categories.

**Example**: a one-time leadership workshop, or a cross-functional innovation group with people from R&D and marketing plus a few selected advisors. You add them by hand and the list stays fixed, even if someone's profile changes later.
